The NECO Management comprises of the Registrar, who under section 9(1) the NECO establishment act, is appointed by the President, on the recommendation of the Minister of Education. The Registrar, under section 9(2) of the Enabling Act, is the Chief Executive of the Council. The Registrar/Chief Executive is responsible for the execution of the policies of the Council and managing the affairs under its direction. The Registrar/Chief Executive is the head of NECO Management team.
The structure of the Council is organised into nine departments, headed by Directors, and the Office of the Registrar/Chief Executive, which is headed by the Registrar/Chief Executive. The Directors are the members of NECO Management team. The Departments are organized into Divisions. Each division is composed of Units.
The Management Team is accountable to the Governing Board. The Governing Board is headed by a Chairman and 17 members. The Registrar/Chief Executive is the Secretary of the Governing Board. The membership of the Governing Board is drawn from statutory stake holder institutions relevant to the operations of the Council. Other members of the Governing Board are political appointees of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
